Voip and Qos

Hi,

I have two office connected with leased line (512K).

At the branch office i have 5 PC communicated with the central site (Windows 2000 files - AS/400 emulation).

Now i want to connect cisco ip phone (7). At the central site there is a Alcatel PABX with Voice ip card.

1) i have a Cisco 3640 at the central site and a 1601 router for the branch office. On the both sites i have a Catalyst Switch 2950.

Can i use this to enable QOS ?

2) Must i enable QOS traffic on switch and router ?

3) Is it difficult to configure QOS ? Where can i find simple examples

Thanks for your help

Re: Voip and Qos

Hi,

My recommendation is any time you have Voice and Data traffic on the same link, you should enable QOS.

Implementing QOS needs a little bit of planning and defining what is importand to you and how important it is. Generally you divide the traffic in your scenario into three categories Voice Traffic, Voice control signals and Data traffic and process them accordingly.

Configuring basic QOS is not that difficult. I have attached a couple of link, hope its helpful
