Team,
Environment: Avaya Interchange used to network several Intuity systems behind it.
What is the best method for Unity (VM) to connect to the interchange and work with the Intuitys? We would like MWI, message forwarding, reply, etc.
My guess would be VPIM to the Interchange, then the Interchange speaks octelnet to the Intuitys? Let me know what you think.
Thanks,

Hi Don,
MWI isn't really part of the consideration. Each system takes care of its own MWI activity for messages in its own subscribers' mailboxes. A voice mail from another network system is no different here than when sent from a local subscriber.
To answer your main question, you could use any of AMIS, Cisco Unity Bridge or VPIM to do network messaging with the Intuitys via the Interchange. There are advantages and disadvantages to each. I recommend you check out http://www.cisco.com/univercd/cc/td/doc/product/voice/c_unity/unity40/net/net403/ex/index.htm and http://www.cisco.com/univercd/cc/td/doc/product/voice/c_unity/bridge30/bnet/bnet30/index.htm on CCO.
Hope that helps.

John,
Thanks for the prompt reply.
I am looking for a PROs CONs listing to each. For example, AMIS would be a last resort of course. VPIM straight to the Interchange, how does this effect directory synchronization or features that the Bridge may do better?
I understand the MWI not being an issue.

The major differences between VPIM and Bridge is that the Bridge provides directory propagation support based on the Octel NameNet feature, and VPIM does not. Conversely, the SMTP transmission of VPIM to the interchange is preferable over the analog transmission of Bridge. A longer list of comparisons are provided in the Cisco Unity 4.0(3) Networking guide that I referenced in the earlier mail. Here is the link to the specific section http://www.cisco.com/univercd/cc/td/doc/product/voice/c_unity/unity40/net/net403/ex/net_0100.htm#1086678.
Also note that Unity VPIM support for Interchange has not been officially announced at this time due to an open issue with how NDRs are processed. This is not necessarily a prohibitive issue for some customers, but it's significant enough that we're still looking into ways to address it. If VPIM is your preference then contact Product Marketing and I'm sure they'll work with you on this.

This is exactly what I needed. Thank you for pointing me to the precise location.
