Why the IP phones cannot get inline power from the CAT 4006?

Hi,

I have a cat 4006 connected to an external auxiliary power unit to provide additional power to all the inlinepower modules. however, when I plug the IP phones to the modules, the ip phones do not receive any power but the ip phones boot and get the power from other XL switches.

all the ports are set to inlinepower auto. I try to set the module to provide 7 watts of power for each port, but the IP phones are still not getting any power.

What could be the cause?

Are you using a SupervisorIII? If so it wont work until a new release of IOS is out, a thread was posted about this the other week.

How many phones it is. Just a couple. Is there a 7835 callmanager in the port above or below the phone?

Also I think you can do a show environment and see how much available power is on the system. Do you have the external powers supplies you need for inline power?

Hi Mckee,

Right now there are only 3 phones connected, although we intend to plug about 120 phones onto the cat 4006 and about 60 to the XL connected to the core cat 4006.

the call manager is in the 4th module, we have 5 modules, the first SUP II, the fifth, voice gateway WS-X4606-GWY.

I am using a WS-P4603-2PSU auxiliary power supply(3 units installed) to provide additional power.

However, I do not see any power supply to the modules. Without using the WS-P4603-2PSU, I can see inlinepower deny to the phones, but it changed to on when the WS-P4603-2PSU is plugged in.

Below is the sho en power:

Thanks everyone,

My own mistake, thanks mckee for pointing out the "show env", the power source is split to too many devices, therefore there is not enough power supply to the phone.
