Will trancoding affect Gatekeeper call admission control function

Hi,

I have a Conferencing software int eh central site that require G.711 codec and my IP phones in the remote WAN is running G.729.

I plan to use Cisco IOS gatekeeper for call admission control. But i am not sure whther gatekeeper is effective if transcoding are involved.

If yes, are there any workard solutons ?

Thanks

David

Re: Will trancoding affect Gatekeeper call admission control fun

Hello David,

Transcoding should be local to the site where the transcoding resources reside. The gatekeeper and phones at the remote will have no indication that transcoding has taken place.

End points send their capabilities to CallManager when they register. Your conference resource will tell CallManager that it can accept only G.711. CallManager will then invoke your transcoders.

Re: Will trancoding affect Gatekeeper call admission control fun

Hi Bob,

are u saying that once the CallManager invoke the transcoders, gatekeeper will set the bandwidth utilisied back to the orginal figure which is zero. Therefore, there will be over-subscription of bandwidth on the WAN links which render the gatekeeper ineffective to prevent over-subscription on the bandwidth.

Regards

David
