Multicast on Nexus7k

Hi,

We have an IPTV solution where multicast source and receivers are on the same vlan. The stream is not working when it passes through nexus 7K switches. We connected the source and receivers are on the same module of one nexus 7K but still the set top boxes are not receiving the stream.

It is working perfectly when it moves to 3750 switches. Nothing to do with multicast configuration as the source and receiver are on the same vlan. Nexus somehow understand the multicast packets and dropping it. Anyone come across with similar issues.

Hi,

It's not clear from the way you've phrased the question, but do you actually have IP multicast enabled on the Nexus 7K?

If you don't then even with the source and receiver in the same VLAN you'll likely run into issues. If you don't have PIM or an IGMP snooping querier enabled in the VLAN then IGMP snooping, which is enabled by default, will result in all traffic being dropped.

Take a read of the forum post Nexus 5596UP multicast to 228.8.8.9 as this was exactly the problem.

Regards
