We're being told by our local Cisco Engineer that the Catalyst 4006 platform running CAT OS 7.2 or later will support 1000BaseTX GBICS, is this true?

I would guess it would depend on the blades you have - I recall there being some debate as to whether some of the blades could support TX GBICs because of voltage concerns or something like that - (I think in our case it was the 18-port server GBIC card that seemed unlikely to be able to handle it).
But I got the impression that for some of the more mainstream cards like the supervisors themselves and possibley the 12-port server TX card with GBIC uplinks they would be supported in code...
If they've about circled and are going to be able to make it work for all cards simply with code I'll jump for joy - but I'm not holding my breath :-)
I'll just be thankful for my SUP3 :-)

We support 1000BaseT GBICs on all line cards in a CAT4006 with Sup2 if it's running 7.2(x). Only exception I can think of is the Layer 3 modules front panel routed ports.

Yes. A cat4006 with Sup2 running 7.2(x) supports Copper GBICs

On a Sup3 running IOS, we do not support it yet

Wow! I stand corrected. And quite happily so!
