1600 router and wic-1enet

Can someone tell me if a WIC-1ENET(a 10baseT ethernet interface for the wic slot) for a 1700 router will work in a 1601 router as a second ethernet interface?

WIC-1ENET is not supported in platforms other than the Cisco 1700.

Is it possible then to have the ip address dynamically assigned to the eth0 of the 1601 and then use the 1601in back to back serial connection with another router to provide internet access to the local lan? My ISP doesn't use PPPOE just dhcp for my dsl.
