1601.. convert serial to ethernet?

Hello,

I want to pick up a 1601 to use in a lab to study for certs. I have no use for the serial port but, I could use 2 ethernet ports. I know the 1605 has 2 ethernet ports but, it is significantly more expensive. I was curious if there is a device that I can use to convert the 1601's serial port to an ethernet port.

Thank you very much, Chris

Chris,

Yes there are devices like this out there. Tini makes one for about 50 bucks. http://www.ibutton.com/TINI/applications/sertoeth/

I looked for and did not find a similar device that Cisco makes. To put all this together the way you want it might end up costing you more than the 1605.

Hope this helps you,

Don

Actually, I believe your suggestion will end up saving me money. I will be buying the router off of ebay and for some reason, the 1601s typically go for around $150 but the 1605s typically go for $300 (the 1605r I bought only a year ago cost me over $600... grrr ).

Thank you very much for your time and effort!

Have a great day!

Will this really work on a Cisco serial? It looks like an rs232 interface.
