Press RETURN to get started!

I am accessing the router software through a console and a serial port (com2). I am using a RJ45 connection. When the prompt "Press RETURN to get started!" appears as shown above, the settings screen automatically starts without me pressing "Return". It then will continue to recycle until I turn off the connection. I am not entering any user or password. Any ideas why?

Re: 1601 router gui continous recycling

Must be a terminal-emulation problem.

Are you using a local echo on your Terminal Emulation?

Please check your settings

No. I am not using local echo. The box is not checked. Is there a chance that the serial to rj45 adapter can be somehow wrong. Is there different pin configurations with these types of adapters. I didn't think so but am asking. I am not using the adapter that originally came with the router.
