1601 WIC failure

I have a 1601 running IOS 12.0. I installed a WIC 1DSU-T1 into the router. When I boot the router I get the message %C1600-4-BADINTFC and the card does not work. When I install the same WIC into a 1605R on the same line I have no problems. Does anybody have an idea of what's wrong ?

The compatibility chart says it should work. Here's what Cisco says about that Error:

Error Message

%C1600-4-BADINTFC: Interface [dec], (0-1 Onboard interfaces 2=WIC) Invalid interface (Unknown, Uninitialized or Bad Cookie value read)

Explanation Your router is functional; however, there is an interface that the software does not recognize.

Recommended Action Copy the error message exactly as it appears, and report it to your technical support representative.

My guess is there's bad code on an EEPROM somwhere. Contact Cisco!
