I have a 1602 R that boots to rmon mode when power on reset is performed. Can boot straight to IOS from the rmon prompt. Config reg 0x2102 looks ok as well as system boot flash:c1600-y-mz.120-12 command. Does anyone know if I'm missing something in the boot setup or has anyone seen this problem before? I do have a modem setup on the console port for remote managment.

Could be an electrical issue with capacity that draws a line low for long enough to be seen as a BREAK. Try to boot without the modem attached and see if the problem goes away.

I was thinking along the same lines. The site was a production site and I had a tech swap aout the hardware and when the problem didn't go away I had them send it to me to test in the lab. I'll post the results.
