1841 Config for SDM

Hello,

This is the first time I am required to use a Cisco product and am not at all familiar with the setup procedure. I have an 1841, and am trying to set it up for SDM access. It was previously configured and that person is no longer available to assist. I am following the document that shows how to configure the device to allow SDM to run, but am stuck at adding a user. Here are the steps that I go through:

1. log into router

2. type 'enable' and type in password

3. type in 'configure terminal'

4. type in the commands to enable http, https and local authentication

5. type in 'username <xxxx> privelege 15 password 0 <xxxx>'

it is in step 5 that I get the following error:

% Invalid input detected at '^' marker.

(the marker is pointing at the first 'e' in privelege.

As I mentioned, I have absolutely no experience with Cisco products and am the only point of contact for this device and desperatly need to get a VPN set up. I figure using SDM is the easiest way to do so.

Thanks

Re: 1841 Config for SDM

The problem is this case is the spelling. It should be 'privilege' instead of 'privelege'.

The complete syntax would be:

'username privilege 15 password 0 '

Re: 1841 Config for SDM

Hello,

You could try entering the command as below:

username test privilege 15 password 0 test

Please note that the "privilege" in the

command you entered is spelt wrongly.

Thanks.

Re: 1841 Config for SDM

Thanks guys. What an easy fix, eh?

I spoke with someone who is familiar with Cisco devices, and he mentioned that since I do not already have SDM on the device, installing/using it might corrupt or wipe out some of the VPN settings I have?

I found that a little hard to believe, but though I would ask before doing something I regret.

Thanks,

Re: 1841 Config for SDM

no it actually wont... when you install sdm it rsh's the sdm java files onto the flash... you will need a priviledge 15 username account to do the push...

I push this all the time, and I have never lost a vpngroup or lan to lan tunnel
