Studying for CCNA - what is the command to find out the Serial Number of a 2501 or 2503 router while telnetting into the box? Show Version does not give it. Short of reload...any help?

You will have to physically read it off the box.
A good practice is to put the serial number as part of the description command on a unused loopback interface.

Hi all,
at the newer cisco boxes like Cat6k there is a command "show idprom all".
It shows all the serial numbers of the box.

Thank you...does Cisco do this for security reasons?
