I am setting up an old 2600. Can someone tell me why I would want to enable multicasting (mroute cache) and IP directed Broadcast on both of the interfaces( They Are both disbled at this moment.) IP and IPX routing are both enabled. The router will allow two subnets to communicate via NT/Novell.
Multicasting is a subset of broadcasting, where a group of clients/ pcs can receive traffic. Commonly used application of multicasting is in Video transmission.Unless you have any multicast traffic travelling across your router interfaces, you dont want to enable multicast routing. If Novell is also running TCP/IP, then you really dont even need the IPX routing to be enabled. Note that most of the new Novell OSes run TCP/IP.
