2611 with a T1 and Cable

I have a 2611 connected to a T1 on the WAN port , a ethernet connection to a cable router on one of the ethernet ports and a LAN connection on the seconsd ethernet port. The Cable line has a dynamic ip address assigned to it while the T1 has a static IP address. can I have the router automatically switch over to the T1 line if I lose my cable connection , or switch to the cable line if I lose my T1 connection. The T1 is Frame relay connected to database servers and the internet. the cable connection is for internet use

Have you tried the "backup interface" command?

also you can try using 2 static default routes with different metrics towards the 2 interfaces...........

Re: 2611 with a T1 and Cable

hi,

you can specify the ethernet interface of yr router in which the cable line lands , as a backup interface of your serial line. you need to specify this in yr serial interface and need to give the delay timings.

Regards,

Ramesh
