I need to setup an operator infrastructure with 3 10/100/1000 ports.
I plan to do so using a Cisco 2821 (two giga ports) and add a NM-16ESW-1G Network module.
Is it possible with that setup to :
- isolate some ports of the switch to use them as router ports ?
- is it possible to do so on the giga port ?
- is there performance issues with such setup ?

Hi,
You can configure a different VLAN per port and then create an SVI for it so that you are in effect, using them as a router port.
The built-in gig ports are layer3 ports so that should be fine too.
THere should not be any performance issues with such a setup.
Hope that helps - pls rate the post if it does.

Yes, I know that I can do it with SVI, but i would like to know if it is possible to get a real layer3 port from the NM-16ESW-1G, and if yes, if there is any difference between the internal 1g ports and the 1g port of the NM module.
Thank you for your help,
Alain
