2900 XL catalyst to 3560G Catalyst

Do I have to use a cross-over cable to hook these two devices togehter or will a straight-through work as well?

Re: 2900 XL catalyst to 3560G Catalyst

Hello Lamar,

the 3560G has a feature called 'mdix' which enables a port to automatically detect if there is a cross cable or straight cable connected, hence rendering it unimportant what cable you use. Just make sure that speed and duplex are set to 'auto' as well on the 3560 port. The configuration should look like this:

Switch# configure terminal

Switch(config)# interface gigabitethernet0/1

Switch(config-if)# speed auto

Switch(config-if)# duplex auto

Switch(config-if)# mdix auto

Switch(config-if)# end

Have a look at this link for more details on the MDIX feature:

GNT
