What is the purpose
of the "diag" file in the flash of the 2900 series switches. Does it need to
be upgraded with the IOS and HTML files?

IT's a diagnostic file that cisco uses at the factory , it does not have to be there for the switch to operate correctly . I always get rid of it when upgrading the switch .

Diagnostic file is used to run some diagnostics by our Development folks. It's definetely a good idea to delete it
