I am populating my environment with 3524's. Some have no config and others do from previous feeble attempts. Before I place a new config on a 3524 that already has one I perform an erase startup and then paste my config onto the switch. I have noticed when I perform a sh conf the old vlan info still remains. Do I need to perform a clear or a no interface vlan X to remove this entry?

You can erase the Vlan.dat file from the flash. All the vlan and VTP info is stored here. When you re-boot the switch the file will be re-created and it should be empty.

Type the following.
Router# vlan database
Router(vlan)# no vlan 3
Router(vlan)# no vlan 4
