3524-XL reboots itself?

We've got 2 3524s connected using GigaStack modules and also connected to 3548s using fiber modules.

One of the 3524 started rebooting itself every 5 minutes. So far in standalone config it has stayed up.

Any ideas? Faulty GigaStack module?

Re: 3524-XL reboots itself?

I've had a similar problem in the past which was due to a bug in the IOS 12.0(5)XU. Upgrading the IOS resolved the problem. The problem occurred when the switch instigated a DNS lookup. After the DNS returned an IP address a host, the switch power-cycled. Perhaps you have snmp configured in such a way that your switch is doing a DNS lookup for the server where you forward snmp traps to?

Thanks for your reply Colin.

Indeed the switch is running 12.0(5)XU, the other switch is running 12.0(5.4)WC(1) - which is a 'maintenance interim software'!???

What version did you upgrade to?

We aren't using snmp, yet...

Re: 3524-XL reboots itself?

12.0(5.3)WC1 and above should do the trick.I'd suggest that you upgrade to 12.0(5.4)WC(1) to stay in sync with your other switches. However, if you're not using SNMP, we haven't explained the 5 minute power-cycles! Try the IOS upgrade and put the switch back into the stack to test reliability. If this doesn't work, it will be well worth testing your GBIC's in a different switch aswell as trying some known working GBIC's with the switch. Good luck!
