3548 XL with a WS-G5483 GBIC - Can not Connect to another 1000BaseT port

Help!

I have a Cisco 3548 XL switch and two GBICS, both the WS-G5482 and the WS-G5483. I'm Trying to go from the Cisco TX GBIC to a 1000Baset Port on my Dell Switch (3024). I'm using a cross over cable, yet still having no luck. I have tried both modules and can not get either to wrok. Any help at all would be much appreciated!

Have you tried a straight-through? (I know CIsco - Cisco connections require x-overs, but not sure about Dell)

On the Dell 3024, do you have anything in use on the GBIC's. Using the GBIC's on the Dell 3024 disables the integrated 10/100/1000 port.

Also, if you could post the configuration of the GBIC port on the Catalyst 3548 that would be helpful. Do you have trunking configured on the port or not? Trunking cannot be used on the Dell 3024 integrated ports. You would have to purchase a GBIC instead.

The port where you are using the GBIC try command: no speed non I found this out when I was stacking 2950's to my 3548's with GBIC.

I have basically the same setup, one 3548xl, and one 3524xl, and Four Dell 3024 switches. Using WS-G5484 GBIC 1000basr SX modules. The Cisco IOS is 12.0(5) WC7, the newest. I have tried this from both 3548, and 3524, and neither work. Going from either Cisco switch to the Dell switch, and the Dell shows the port is green, but the Cisco port does not. One the Dell switch once you use the GBIC slot it disables the RJ-45 port.

This is the Config interface port on the 3524, Gi 0/1 goes to the Cisco 3548 GBIC, and the Gi 0/2 goes to the Dell GBIC. I have changed the “Access Mode VLAN” on the Gi 0/2 port, and this did not change. I have the GBIC working from the 3548 to the 3524, and between the two Dell’s, BUT it’s getting them to talk from the Cisco 3524 to the Dell 3024. Also I have pretty much the same settings on the Dell Switch.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Try changing the encapsulation on Gi0/1 to dot1q since isl is cisco proprietary.

As far as I remember the 1000BaseT standard caters for automatic crossing pairs so you 'shouldn't' need a crossover cable. BUT, if the Dell switch is a 10/100/1000 then you will need to use a full 1000BaseT crossover. This is a bit more than a standard 10BaseT/100BaseTX crossover as it requires all pairs to be crossed not just 1&2 and 3 & 5.
