3550/3750 Management Interface

Situation

The previous configuration was using vlan 1 as the management vlan and it is now being changed to

vlan "Z".

When configuring vlan "Z" as the managment vlan for a 3750 or 3550 is it necessary to have a vlan 1 interface on the switch at all ?

config t

!

int vlan Z

ip add x.x.x.x Y.Y.Y.Y

no shut

!

no interface vlan 1

This is the default interface and afaik, cannot be removed. Simply shutting it down will bring it out of operation. HTH.
