3550-EMI vs. 2600 and 3548

I have network that I need to segment using VLANs. My original proposal was to go in with a 2621 router and a 3548 switch. The assumption here was that the 2621 could route between VLANs on the 3548. Can I replace this whole solution with a 3550-EMI? Would I lose anything by going with the 3550-EMI? I have some Macs on the network so I also need to support AppleTalk. Please advise.

The 3550 can route only IP traffic. For non-IP traffic, you'll have to use Fall Back bridging
