A HP printer connected to f0/42 on a 3550 suddenly lost connections. The cable and jacks were tested fine. Interface light on the Catalyst looked normal. Hooked a laptop to the wall jack. It auto-negotiated and had a L2 link connection. But no traffic could pass. Changing speed/duplex on both end didn't help. Switchport interface doesn't have any physical/link layer errors. Only errors were 44392 underrun errors which other ports on this switch also have. Changing Vlan configuration or shutting down the interface did not work. "sh post" looks fine.
"sh controller ethernet-controller fastEthernet 0/42" has only the follow errors:
44392 Discarded frames
1190 Symbol error frames
1187 Invalid frames, too small
0 Valid frames, too small
This is the second time it happened. The only solution I have is to reload the switch, which fixed the problem last time.
Does anyone have any idea to figure out what exactly went wrong with f0/42? I guess the interface controller is bad.
