Is it possible to have a 3550-12G Switch Monitor Layer 3 traffic on a layer 2 port. I know these switches are L3-4 aware and are L3 switches as well (enhanced code, which we are running). I am looking at a dropped packet issue and would like to debug the IP packets on this layer 2 port. Any suggestions welcomed. The ability to debug all IP packets on a particular VLAN would be even better.
The Layer3 traffic can be monitored on a Layer2 port using the SPAN feature in The Catalyst 3550 Switches.The Catalyst 3550 Switches can support up to two SPAN sessions at a time and can monitor source ports as well as VLANs. Release 12.1(8)EA1,the debug ip packet command displays packets received by the switch CPU.
