3550 Switch Monitoring L3 Packets

Is it possible to have a 3550-12G Switch Monitor Layer 3 traffic on a layer 2 port. I know these switches are L3-4 aware and are L3 switches as well (enhanced code, which we are running). I am looking at a dropped packet issue and would like to debug the IP packets on this layer 2 port. Any suggestions welcomed. The ability to debug all IP packets on a particular VLAN would be even better.

The Layer3 traffic can be monitored on a Layer2 port using the SPAN feature in The Catalyst 3550 Switches.The Catalyst 3550 Switches can support up to two SPAN sessions at a time and can monitor source ports as well as VLANs. Release 12.1(8)EA1,the debug ip packet command displays packets received by the switch CPU. It does not display packets that are hardware-switched.For more information, go through the following document:
