Hi, I want to know what type of cards I need for a spare 3640 to function as a backup for a AS5300,with one PRI. Approx cost?

Hi,
Depends on what mode of backup you are looking for, ie, isdn (BRI) or analog (POTS).
If you have a blank chassis, will need a LAN/WAN combo card, have options for ethernet or fastethernet: NM-1E2W / NM-2E2W /NM-1FE2W /NM-2FE2W.
WAN connectivity for backup can be achived using one of the following WIC cards (that can be inserted as daughter cards in the LAN/WAN combo card)
WIC-1B-U <===for isdn
WIC-1AM / WIC-2AM <===built in modems connecting to POTS lines.
Thanks,
Mak.

Well actually it would be for both isdn and dial-up users.

Hi,
Ok, looks like you need a standby RAS (equivalent to the as5300). The 5300 is supporting isdn as well as modem calls comming on the PRI.
The 3600 can do that functionality using the following cards:
1)NM-1FE1CT1-CSU.....One-port 10/100BaseTX Ethernet with one-port T1 PRI/Channelized with integrated CSU
2)NM-24DM ....Network Module with 24 digital modems (could be in multiples of 6, ie , NM-6DM /12DM/18DM)
Thanks,
Mak.

Thank you for your help

I agree with Mak, but if you are located in Europe you'll need a E1 instead of the T1 and the NM-24DM can be up to NM-30DM. The Digital modems allow you to recieve analog callas (POTS), and if you have only one PRI in that case consider getting something like NM-18DM, since there is very little possibility that you'll recieve 30 concurent analog calls on your backup router, and the digital modems network module is quite expensive.
Hope this helps

configuration URL's for 3640 (not AS5xxx, please)
--> Radius Authentication (remote network based)
--> BRI(client) to PRI(host) inbound calling only
--> DMM multilink to 112K or higher?

As far as BRI, PRI and DMM (mica modems) goes, the config for 3600 is same as 5300..So if you refer to 5300 config its exactly the same for 3600 too.
