I want to erase the current config on my 4006 and when I type in the commnads I get this from the console......
CCW-4006-1> (enable) clear config all
This command will clear all configuration in NVRAM. This command
will cause ifIndex to be reassigned on the next system startup.
Do you want to continue (y/n) [n]?
What does this mean? Can anyone shed some light on this subject?
Thanks, Alonzo

It is the interface index (ifIndex). ifIndex is of the identifiers most commonly used in SNMP-based network management applications. fIndex is a unique identifying number associated with a physical or logical interface; as far as most software is concerned, the ifIndex is the "name" of the interface.

Thanks for the info. but is it O.K. for me to erase the current config and reset the switch?

Sure, it's OK if erasing the configuration is your intent. Just know that you'll need console access to it after a reset for all configuration will be gone.
Hope this helps,
Don
