4006 - MLS

1. Does the Sup III engine in itself provide layer 3 switching/roting w/OSPF, or do we need to purchase a seprate L# module?

Re: 4006 - MLS

A Supervisor III engine will support layer 3 switching yes. What router will you be using?

Do not confuse Layer 3 switching with MLS. MLS requires the first packet of every flow to be routed, it then caches the properties and switches the rest. The requirements are either a 5000 or 6000 series switch, a 3600 - 7500 series router, Sup III with NFFC and software 5.1 on Cat. Do you have all of this?

You do not need a separate L3 Module with the Sup III

With the Sup II yes you do.

What is the MLS for in the title because that is something different entirely?

There are L3 and L2 MLS devices and configuration.
