4506 SupIV confreg=0x2142 does not work

In trying to recover the password on a 4506 w/SupIV running 12.2 IOS, I break the autoboot sequence, and at the rommon type 'confreg 0x2142' but I get a usage:confreg error. I then try 'confreg=0x2142' which it accepts, then a 'reset' but the sytem reloads with a 0x2102 config so the orig config loads. Any ideas?? See set command below:

rommon 4 >set

PS1=rommon ! >

ConfigReg=0x0102

RommonVer=12.2(20r)EW1

BootedFileName=bootflash:cat4500-entservicesk9-mz.122-31.SG.bin

BSI=0

RET_2_RCALTS=

confreg=0x2142

ConsecPostPassedCnt=3

Re: 4506 SupIV confreg=0x2142 does not work

Hi,

When you are in the rommon mode just type confreg and respond to the prompts as explained in the following link.

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/hw/switches/ps663/products_password_recovery09186a00800945f7.shtml

Once you do that the switch should boot without the config and from there proceed with the other usual pw recovery procedures.

Hope that helps!

Sundar

Solved it....the autoboot apparently overrides any confreg settings defined by the user, so you have to type 'confreg ' and configure settings for the autoboot.

Yeah that's what I stumbled onto just before your response, but thanks Sundar very much!
