We have a school net. 8500, 6509, 4912G,3524XL-EN. Gig links (with sm fiber) from 4912G up to 6509 and (with mm fiber) down to 3524 hang. We have seen this when the temp is too high and sometimes even when not. On site I can see the LEDs are green so all should be ok but we cannot ping or see other equip through cdp ne. If not on site I need to dis/ena the port on 6509 then telnet to 4912 and reset. All comes up, all is fine. CAT OS ver 4.5.(1) OK I know it is old we are planning to upgrade but is there a bug?, what is the cause? I can´t find anything on CCO about this except on 4006 running 6.1.1.
Just an update.....with upgraded OS to 7.1.2 and prom to 6.1.4 the problem continues to arise intermittently. We have many schools and it seems that after a year or two in production the problem starts accuring. Most of the switches were purchased around the same time. At this point I can´t believe anything other than a HW problem. Other 4912G we have exchanged have not had problems afterwards.
