6500 line card buffers

I am trying to better understand 6500 line card buffers. eg

6748-GE-TX has 166KB/1.2MB rx/tx per port

but the

6548-GE-TX has 185KB/1.2MB shared by 8 ports.

Can someone explain under what scenarios this could cause a bottleneck please.

Re: 6500 line card buffers

Our core datacenter switches were purchased with 6148 GE TX 1MB per 8 ports. We had 96 servers all pushing 1GB. When backups or a heavy network intensive application would cause problems with our VOIP call center. Phones would lose connections to call managers, MGCP gateways and so on..

For our next network design we went with Sup720?s 6748GE-TX 1.2MB per port with the DFC.

If you are doing Access Layer the 6548 GE-TX or WS-X6148A-GE-45AF are great choices.

Datacenter or Server farm go with the 6748 with the DFC card.
