6500/Native IOS Error Output

I've been trying to identify ports which are showing errors generating due to a bad nic or just mismatched settings between the switch port and a NIC (auto, duplex, etc.). I've found that a hard set switchport (full/100) and a NIC set to auto will generate errors and vice versa.

In investigating this I used the command 'show interface counters errors'. This gives me an extensive list of error counters for each port. I also happened to take a look at a specific port using a different command 'show interface fastethernet 6/26'. This also shows errors and other numbers such as input/output rates, etc., for that particular port.

My question is, why are there different counters listed in the output for each command? Is this just a result of CAT/Native being in one IOS? For instance, CRC error output is listed in the 'show int' command but not in the 'sh int counters errors' command output. There is also different output that shows up in the counters/errors command vs. the show int command as well.

Also, any links to explanations of what the counters for each command mean would be handy as well.

I'm running 12.1(12c)E2.

The "show interface counters" , "show interface status" are Native IOS commands that are meant to look like the "show port counters" and "show port" CatOS commands.

In the case of the CRC error in the "show interface" command, this is the same as the "FCS error" in the "show interface counters" command.
