6500 OIR causes 1 ping lost?

We have tested three Cat6500 switches with OIR.

When a spare module is removed, there is no ping lost.

However when a spare module is inserted, there is always 1 second packet loss to PING, including PING to end devices.

Is this normal? Btw, the Cat6500s are running IOS 12.1(20).E2

We have to stall the bus for milliseconds when a new module is inserted so that it can start communicating and hence seems like it is possible that you would lose the ping if it was going on the bus during the time.

We have tested a few cat6, and it seems the timeout is around 1 second. We used ping -w 1, so we can see one ping lost during testing. Is this expected behavior?

Does this happen to switches running CatOS also?

The symtom does ont appear on Cat4. Is this because of the different hardware design?
