I just received a new 6506 + SUP720

Trying to use one of both uplink ports on SUP720. What can i do with these ports

I set an ip @ in vlan 1 and when i connect a PC to uplink 2, vlan 1 is always down. I need to set an ip @ to uplink 2 and then i can access my 6506 with telnet

uplink 2 is shown with status routed when show in status

What does it meen ?

If you put an address into a vlan 1 SVI then you need to make the ports "switchports" in order for them to talk . Type in "switchport" on each interface , they are no different than any other layer2/3 port . They can be routed ports or they can be switch access ports...

Thanks

works fine now

Switch ports can be configured as routed ports and standard access ports.

If you want to configure them as access ports, you need to create the layer2 VLAN on the switch.

VLAN1 is automatically created and it should be active layer2 VLAN (you can verify its status by typing 'show vlan').

Can you post your current config and explain what really you want to accomplish ? It wasn't clear on the original post.

Thanks

I set the port as switchport like said in the msg of Glen and it works fine now
