Do I need to worry about what modules will work in what 6509 configurations?
I have a 6509 with a Supervisor Engine1-A, 2GE, plus MSFC-2 & PFC - will a WS-6584-GE-TX 48 port 10/100/100 module work OK, it says it is CEF256 ?

The 48-port 10/100/1000 modules are currently only supported in CatOS, that is correct. They will be supported in Native, but do contact your account team for details on timeframe etc.
Yes, if running Native, the WS-X6516-GE-TX is currently the only way forward - with a lot less ports, but also with a lot less over-subscription...

There are limitations both as to software and to hardware and which will work with each other, so it's always a good thing to check the Software Advisor at http://www.cisco.com/cgi-bin/Support/CompNav/Index.pl?Introduction=True
Specifically for WS-X6548-GE-TX, then yes it will work with your Sup1.
But you'd be paying a premium (12 k$ vs 7,5 k$) for performance that you'll not be able to use with your current supervisor. A WS-X6148-GE-TX may be a better choice if you're not planning on upgrading the supervisor any time soon.
Both GE blades require CatOS 7.6(1), which is 'latest and greatest'.

Thanks for that advice.
I now have a problem though - I never said but we are running native IOS, on the software advisor both these modules are only supported on CatOS!
I guess WS-X6516-GE-TX is the way forward - with a lot less ports.
