6509 compact switching

Hi

When i was monitoring the 6509 switch with Ciscoworks, there was a critical error stating that 6509 switch fabric changed the switching to compact switching. What does it really mean? Will it have any impact on the network.

Re: 6509 compact switching

Here is the definition of compact switching mode

Compact mode—A compact version of the DBus header is forwarded over the switch fabric channel, delivering the best possible switching rate. Nonfabric-enabled modules do not support the compact mode and generate cyclic redundancy check (CRC) errors if they receive frames in compact mode. This mode is used only when no nonfabric-enabled modules are installed in the chassis.

so basically looks like you have all fabric enabled modules and the switch has switched to compact switching which will give the best performance.
