Hello All,

We have 6509 on our Campus Network at Core level and 4006 at Distribution level and it's been working fine . But, I feel somewhat whatever configuration we did is ok and are we utilising the capability (power) of 6509 Switch . When I check the spantree configuration on 6509 , it shows backbonefast disabled , uplinkfast disabled . I've pasted the spantree summary of our 6509 for your ref . What I would like to know hear is , this configuration is ok and can I enable backfonefast on 6509 and Uplinkfast for all the uplink ports (Uplink ports are GBIC ports to 4006 ) on 6509.

CORE > sh spantree summary

MAC address reduction: disabled

Root switch for vlans: none.

Portfast bpdu-guard disabled for bridge.

Uplinkfast disabled for bridge.

Backbonefast disabled for bridge.

Thanks with Regards,

Raju

Backbone fast helps to converge the STP faster in case of an indirect link failure and must be configured on all the switches to take advantage of this. So you can configure this in Cat6509 and on the 4006, which might help.

Whereas Uplinkfast detects only the direct link failure and usually configured only on the Access/Distribution switches, in your case 4006. So confiiguring Uplink fast on the Core switches, in your case 6509 is not going to make any difference.
