6509 fails when 6408 gbic card installed in slot

I thought all cards were could be installed while the 6509 was running but this caused a reload. Any ideas?

Hi,

It is true that all cards are hot swappable. However, Online insertion or removal, can, in rare circumstances cause the switch to reload. If the OIR (time between backplane contact of the first and last pin) exceeds 3 seconds, the bus will stall and cause a software forced crash.

Beyond that, the other circumstances that can cause such an event are if there is physical damage to the backplane (bent pins) or the linecard connector.
