7200 and Serial Interface

Greetings,

I need to connect an asynchronous 56k modem to a synchronous serial interface on a 7200 router. I would like to know if this is even possible to do so, and if not is my only option is to use the aux port? Please let me you if you have any ideas and maybe a sample configuration to actually set this config up. This user is using the serial interface to connect to the router and then through to the internal network.

Thank you kindly,

Dallas

No..its not possile as async communication will not work with sync interface. You only need to use the AUX port for that.

Re: 7200 and Serial Interface

Thank you for your response. Is it possible to use the synchronous serial interface if the interfaces is sync/async? The Aux port is in use by another modem and is used for management purposes.

Thanks,

Re: 7200 and Serial Interface

YES..you can use Sync/Async interface for async communication using command "physical layer async". Sync is by default on sync/async interface.
