7200 Series Routers

I have a potental customer that has a "7200 150". I beleive this to be a 7204 with a 150 processer engine (the customer was not that tech and did not know for sure what the model was other then it was "old"). The customer would like to switch to an OC3 circuit (currently has a DS-3). My question is would the newer boards be compatable with this "older" unit? my guess is no based on the limited info but I would just like a sanity check!

Re: 7200 Series Routers

It depends on how much port adaptors and of which type are present in the chassis currently. The 7200 with NPE150 can support the OC3 interface but you have to be careful not to overload the router internal buses.

Have a look to http://www.cisco.com/cgi-bin/Support/PSP/psp_view.pl?p=Hardware:7200

This may be redundant information but here is a good white paper (kinda hard to find) on bandwidth calculation on the point system. http://www.cisco.com/univercd/cc/td/doc/product/core/7206/port_adp/config/3471in.htm
