Re: 804 won't boot.

In my seeming unending capacity for genius I killed the image on my 804. The plan was to upgrade. I'm now stuck in rommon. I've fallen and I can't get up!

Can someone help me out of the hole I've dug?

There are two solutions offered depending on the IOS release you are using.

Thanks for your time Gents. But I'm in deeper than that!

there is no IOS image to boot from. From rommon I've setup a tftp download and boot. I THINK the problem is that the tftp is putting the image into RAM, not flash. With the image sitting in RAM there's insufficient room to open it and run it.

(Please remember, I'm in rommon.) I can't find a "copy" or "move" with which to relocate the file from RAM to flash.

Nor can I find a way to point the tftp to flash instead of RAM.

anyone? ....anyone?

also, this is the smallest image I can find (IP only)...the funny name stems from me renaming it to minimize characters, I had some problems with tftp.

Have you tried save? That will move the image from ram to flash.

Have you tried the tftpdnld command? This is used for disaster recovery and will load the file to flash overwritting anything already there. See website below for this procecure.

"tftpdnld" is for the 2600 series. The 800 equivalent is a 2 part process, "upload tftp" then "save file".

The website is showed is for the 800 series router and shows it as an available rommon command. Unfortunately I don't have an 800 to verify this with.
