I would like to connect a small remote office (3 nodes) over SM fiber to a main office that has a Catalyst 4006. Any thoughts on what to buy for the small office? I don't really want to have to overdo it with a big 24port switch with gig uplinks. Anyone know of anything smaller and cheaper that can still do GigE over SM?
Thank you.

I believe Cisco does have a 2912 that has two gig uplinks and 12 FE ports. My question is this - If you are only connecting 3 machines to FE ports, why go Gigabit. The const for that link alone would pay for a "big 24port switch" in the first month-ish...

You may want to look at some media converters (versus a hub/router/firewall).
Black Box, SignaMax, and others made a media / signal converter that'll take GIG from copper of MM fiber and put it to single mode fiber.
Check out www.signamax.com: they have a variety of signal converter / drivers.
Good Luck
