About L2switch and PC connected to Catalyst2960S with Cate5 (2pair)

Hi,

L2switch and PC are connected to Catalyst2960S with Cate5 (2pair).

NIC of L2switch or PC corresponds to 10/100/1000BASE-T.

2960S,L2switch, and PC are auto negotiation.

Although the connection state of L2switch is linkdown,

the connection state of PC is linkup (100BASE-TX).

Why does L2switch is linkdown?

Regards

Re: About L2switch and PC connected to Catalyst2960S with Cate5

hi,

----Port connected L2Switch ---

Cat2960S#show int gi1/0/15

GigabitEthernet1/0/15 is down, line protocol is down (notconnect)

Hardware is Gigabit Ethernet, address is (bia )

base on that info,

and the input/output counter of packet/frame which all zero.

it behaves like you dont connect the cable to this port or using wrong type of cable or using bad cable.

what kind of cable do you use for connecting between the switch?

if both switch have auto mdi/mdix feature then it doesnt matter wether you using straight or cross cable.

Kindly do the following commands:

1.  test cab tdr int gi1/0/15;

2.  Wait for approximately 5 to 7 seconds;

3.  sh cable tdr int gi1/0/15; and

4.  Please post the output.

Re: About L2switch and PC connected to Catalyst2960S with Cate5

Hi

With only a 2 pair cable u could get Trouble with mdi/mdix..Try a Cross cable and if that does Not help Try also to fix Speed and Duplex
