Access Console from another routers Aux?

HI

Is it possible to access a routers console from another routers aux-port? What kind of kable do I need? How will I configure it?

I have a C1700-router in another LAN that is (by security-reasons) not connected to or primary LAN. On the shelf next to the C1700 is a C3620 in our Lan. If I could connect the C3620 Aux-port with the C1700 console and from the C3620-router administer the C1700-router it would be great.

Thanks in advance!

Regards Jimmy

Re: Access Console from another routers Aux?

yes , this is possible

aux config

line aux 0

transport input telnet

no special config is needed on the console , use a cat 5 cable

to connect use an ip address on the 3620 and reverse telent to the 1720

3620#telnet 1.1.1.1 2065

this should connect you to the console of the 1720

Re: Access Console from another routers Aux?

Hi again

So what I need is a straight ordinary plain vanilla TP patch-cable to connect the routers aux and con ports?

Hi again

I just tried with an ordinary patch-cable without success. When I tried with a Cisco console-cable it worked great!

Re: Access Console from another routers Aux?

I am also attempting to set this up at some remote site where I only have one dial modem and multiple routers, and switches.

Could anyone point me to a Web page on Cisco’s site that gives additional information?

Thanks in advance, Robert
