Hi,

Can someone help regarding this

what is the difference between those 2 commands? on a lab I have been asked to do exactly the same things on two different switch however I failed and apparently the question was the same but one of the switch is on the access-layer and the other in the distribution layer!

2-(config-if)switchport trunk allowed vlan 51

Hi,

The first command is used on an access port and basically associates all traffic on that port with VLAN 51.

On the other hand, the second command is used on a trunk port to explicitly enable it to carry VLAN 51. By default, trunks will carry all VLANs unless you explicitly dis-allow certain VLANs.

Hope that helps - pls rate the post if it does.
