add bandwidth on backbone

how do i know when to add more bandwidth between my workgroup switches and core switches?

is it possible to determine this by the average link utillization during peak moments?

Use an FTP transfer. Do an ftp between two pc's with a cross-over cable. That will give your base line (use about 300 meg). Do the same transfer between the core and access (using the SAME pcs) during peak production times. What is the different?
