Adding VLANs

I still have a question about how to add vlans to the port-channel without

it being disruptive. When I added vlan 62,63, and 64 I started with the

interfaces 1/1 and 1/2 on 6509A then did the portchannel 1 on the 6509a then

went to the 6509b and did the same thing in the same order. By the time I

got to doing the portchannel on the 6509b, users were calling like crazy!!!!

Once I finished, all was fine again. The message I got was related to the

portchannel not having the same vlan mask on both ends. Is there an order

that I can do on future additions to the portchannel that will avoid this

unpleasantness?

If the channel is created manually using the set port channel mod/port on command for each switch, it is recommended that the ports be turned off on one side of the channel or the other side using the set port disable command before turning EtherChannel on manually. This will avoid possible problems with STP during the configuration process. STP could shut down some ports (with a port status of errdisable) if one side is configured as a channel before the other side can be configured as a channel.
