Additonal Interfaces on 2821

Hi All,

I am relatively new to cisco and routers. My organization just purchased a cisco 2821 router. We would like to add two additional gigabit ethernet interfaces to it and connect to other subnets via Cat 5e or Cat 6 cabling. I was just wondering if it is possible to add two additional gigabit ethernet interface cards (HWIC's) and if so, what specific hardware we would need to purchase?

Thanks,

Ryan

Hi,

2821 comes with 2 integrated GE (10/100/1000). It supports up to 4 x HWIC and 1 x NME or NME-X.

You can only add 1 x GE (10/100/1000) by getting the following;

1 x HWIC-1GE-SFP

1 x GLC-T=

Hi,

As you will be routing between the subnets, a software-based router may not guarantee full performances, you best choice would be to get a L3 switch for that, eg a 3560 or 3750 10/100 for the PCs and 4 SFP ports for high-speed routing.

Hope this helps, please rate post if it does!
