Address flapping on cat 3500XL

Hi,

We have this strange problem on a switch it produces address flap messages. See below..

Oct 8 08:59:28: %RTD-1-ADDR_FLAP: FastEthernet0/1 relearning 6 addrs per min

On this port there is only one server and there is only one mac-address in the table. (the correct one)

The server does not have any other netwrok connection.

We already done this to resolve

- shutdown the port and bring it up again.

- rebooted the server

- connected the server to port fa 0/7 (then is started to complain on port fa 0/4)

- clear the mac-address table

- checked for errors on the interface

- cleared the interface counters

- checked again for errors on the interface

config of port is:

interface FastEthernet0/1

duplex full

speed 100

spanning-tree portfast

Any ideas what is causing this?

Any solutions except for reloading and or replacing the switch

Thanks,

Hans Grutter

Take a look at the following bugs.

Re: Address flapping on cat 3500XL

Hi,

Thanks for the info but I already solved it!

One of the gigabit ports on the core switch side was not in the channel. Why It doesn't complian about gigbit 0/1 or gigbit 0/2 interfaces is a mistery to me probably a bug as you wrote.

Thanks for the effort.

Hans
