ADSL config (UK)

Hi, I am new to ADSL and would appreciate any feedback on a couple of questions.

Is aal5mux the default encapsulation used in the UK

Do all ISPs use PPPoA

When specifying pvc, eg pvc 0/38 where is this got from? Is this provided by the ISP?

Does the static ip address specified by the ISP need to configured on the ATM interface?

If I am going to use IPSEC over the ADSL link, do I need to request that these ports be opened at the ISP end?

Many thanks

Re: ADSL config (UK)

Tough question to answer about the default encap in UK, when I am in the US...hopefully somebody from UK can answer that.

Usually your ATM PVC should terminate on a DSLAM. Its nothing more than a ATM switch. ISP will be configuring the required PVC numbers, which you should configure on your CPE. IF you are using a static IP, then you need to configure it on the ATM interface. ISP should pass these packets transparently, so you dont need to request the ISP to open up these ports.
